Decision-Making Methods BrainstormingBrainstorming engages the group members verbally proposing ideas or complementary courses of action. The session of brainstorming is normally unstructured. Decision by authority is one of these methods where the group comes up with ideas and carries out open discussions although the final decision is made by one person (Cassidy, 1999). This is very fast and appropriate especially when there is an expert in the problem of discussion. This method does not, however, maximize the potentials of every individual in the group and may implement a decision made by only one member of the group. Decision by majority is another method where a group votes on a specific issue after a discussion period. This method is also fast as it uses the democratic participation during the process. There is decision by negative minority where the group votes for the less popular idea and then eliminates it. This is dome repeatedly until only one idea is left. This is very democratic and useful when there are only few voters but many ideas. Decision by ranking is where the members of the group the top five ideas that they most prefer and then rank them on a rank of 1-5. The idea with the highest vote is then settled on. This method gives the satisfaction that the decision chosen represents each individual member of the group. Decisio n by unanimity is where all the group members agree that the decision settled on is the best one. Decision by consensus is where the decision reached is discussed further until everyone affected by it understands and agrees with what will be done (Lu, 2007). A consensus may be difficult to be achieved, and this may take a longer time. Combining ideas is a method where the group looks for ways of combining and implementing all the ideas given by the members into one solution. In this method, the implementation process may take a longer time because many ideas are being considered.In order to make effective decisions, my group employs brainstorming, and the nominal group technique to make effective decisions on how to market new products. Brainstorming especially helped us when we needed to come up with the brand name of our sales team. To come up with the brand of a company requires a lot of creativeness and the brainstorming method served us right as it gave each member of the group an opportunity to present their views and opinions. Beauregards army at Corinth, MS.à Arriving, Prices division saw service in the Siege of Corinth that May and withdrew south when Beauregard elected to abandon the town.à That fall, when Beauregards replacement,à General Braxton Bragg, moved to invade Kentucky, Van Dorn and Price were left to defend Mississippi.à Pursued by Major General Don Carlos Buells Army of the Ohio, Bragg directed Prices enlarged Army of the West to march from Tupelo, MS north towards Nashville, TN. This force was to be aided by Van Dorns smaller Army of West Tennessee. Rosecrans on September 19 at the Battle of Iuka.à Attacking the enemy, he was unable to break through Rosecrans lines.à Bloodied, Price elected to withdraw and moved to unite with Van Dorn at Ripley, MS.à Rendezvousing five days later, Van Dorn led the combined force against Rosecrans lines at Corinth on October 3.à Assaulting the Union positions for two days in the Second Battle of Corinth, Van Dorn failed to achieve victory.à Angered by Van Dorn and desiring to take his command back to Missouri, Price traveled to Richmond, VA and met with President Jefferson Davis.à Making his case, he was chastised by Davis who questioned his loyalty.à Stripped of his command, Price received orders to return to the Trans-Mississippi Department. Sterling Price - Trans-Mississippi: Serving under Lieutenant General Theophilus H. Holmes, Price spent the first half of 1863 in Arkansas.à On July 4, he performed well in the Confederate defeat at the Battle of Helena and assumed command of the army as it withdrew to Little Rock. AR.à Pushed out of the state capital later that year, Price ultimately fell back to Camden, AR.à On March 16, 1864, he took command of the District of Arkansas.à The following month, Price opposed Major General Frederick Steeles advance through the southern part of the state.à Misinterpreting Steeles objectives, he lost Camden without a fight on April 16.à Though Union forces had won a victory, they were short on supplies and Steele elected to withdraw to Little Rock.à Harried by Price and reinforcements led by General Edmund Kirby Smith, Steeles rearguard defeated this combined force at Jenkins Ferry in late April. Following this campaign, Price began advocating for an invasion of Missouri with the goal of reclaiming the state and endangering President Abraham Lincolns reelection that fall.à Though Smith granted permission for the operation, he stripped Price of his infantry.à As a result, the effort in Missouri would be limited to a large-scale cavalry raid.à Moving north with 12,000 horsemen on August 28, Price crossed into Missouri and engaged Union forces at Pilot Knob a month later.à Turning west, he fought a string of battles as his men laid waste to the countryside.à Increasingly hemmed in by Union forces, Price was badly beaten by Curtis, now leading the Department of Kansas Indian Territory, and Major General Alfred Pleasonton at Westport on October 23.à Pursued into hostile Kansas, Price turned south, passed through the Indian Territory and finally halted at Laynesport, AR on December 2 having lost half of his command. Sterling Price - Later Life: Largely inactive for the remainder of the war, Price elected not to surrender at its conclusion and instead rode to Mexico with part of his command in the hope of serving in the army of Emperor Maximilian.à Turned down by the Mexican leader, he briefly led a community of Confederate expatriates living in Veracruz before growing ill with intestinal issues.à In August 1866, Prices condition worsened when he contracted typhoid.à Returning to St. Louis, he lived in an impoverished state until dying on September 29, 1867.à His remains were buried in the citys Bellefontaine Cemetery.
